Description

This research explores ecological alienation and environmental trauma within literary representations of the Niger Delta. Dr. Abba A. Abba critically examines how environmental pollution, oil exploitation, economic marginalization, and political neglect disconnect communities from their environment, cultural heritage, livelihoods, and collective identity.

The study investigates the emotional, psychological, and social consequences of ecological destruction on individuals and communities living within environmentally devastated regions. Through the lens of ecopoetics, the research demonstrates how literary texts document experiences of displacement, suffering, ecological grief, and resistance while preserving the voices of communities affected by environmental crises.

The work also highlights literature’s role in advocating for environmental justice, sustainability, accountability, and social reform. By connecting literary studies with environmental discourse, the article contributes to ongoing scholarly conversations concerning ecological consciousness, postcolonial environmentalism, and the intersection between literature and activism within African societies.
